Premarital counseling : Austin, tx

Congratulations on your engagement! Why should a couple seek premarital counseling? Are you curious about the benefits of premarital counseling? Here are a few:
Communication
Communication is one of the most important skills, if not the most important skill, to have in a happy and healthy marriage. Communication doesn’t come naturally to everyone and needs to be practiced like many other life skills. A therapist can help you learn to be an active listener and develop the skills to truly understand what your partner is saying.
Resolving Conflict
All couples face times of conflict that can put a strain on the relationship. How do you resolve conflict? Premarital counseling can teach you how to understand patterns that lead to conflict, communication during conflict, and teach you how to work together to overcome the conflict.
Goals and Support
There are questions that should be discussed before the big day. Do you want to have children? If yes, how many? Does someone stay home if you were to have children? Are you taking your spouse’s last name? How is spending money allocated? How much money do you want to save per month and what do you want to do with the savings? Working with a therapist to answer these questions will prepare you and your partner for a future together. Having an unbiased opinion (not your mother-in-law’s) to explore these questions is important.
